its been a while... i guess it is time to mop the floor....

the other day i woke up to the sound of running water... i figured it was a faucet that was left open...

(the water in our neighborhood is turned off ever day from around 1 or 2pm, until early the next morning to help with water conservation, we have a tinaco on the roof, this saves the water so when the street water is not available, the tinaco is used)

so... i got up to turn the faucet off... i was met downstairs with quite a surprise, i walked right into a flooded downstairs. the sink hose from our 1/2 bathroom downstairs had broken, making water spray everywhere... it was going out the front door, the back door, about 1/2 high around all the walls... i guess our floor is not completely level, lucky for us, and everything that was in the middle of the rooms was ok... as you could imagine, we were not very happy, i dont know who would want to start a day off like this.... yes, i complained a little... something like... "well, i guess it has been too long without another catastrophe happening"... and "why now".... while brent went to buy a mop, since ours was lent out, i turned the tv on... and the news was on, reporting.... "major flooding in china, many people being evacuated from their homes...." i couldnt say another word.... i will take 1/2 inch of water any day.... and the floor was overdue for a good mopping.... have a great day!!!!

happy fathers day....

here is a good recipe that i tried today to celebrate fathers day... for brent... who will someday be a father...

chili coconut chicken...

  • 2/3 cup hot chicken stock (broth)
  • 1/3 cup coconut milk
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 4-6 boneless chicken breast, cut into small strips
  • 1 small red chili, sliced thinly (i used crushed red pepper, b/c i didnt have a red chili)
  • 4 spring onions (scallions), sliced thinly (i used a red onion b/c i didnt have scallions)
  • 4 tbsp creamy or chunky peanut butter
  • finely grated rind and juice of 1 lime
  • boiled rice to serve (i boiled the rice with half water, half coconut milk to give it a hint of coconut flavor, after it was cooked i added kidney beans)

1. mix together chicken stock and coconut milk
2. heat oil in a wok or large heavy frying pan, and cook the chicken strips, stirring until golden
3. add sliced red chili and scallions to the pan, cook gently for a few minutes, stirring to mix all ingredients
4. add peanut butter, coconut cream, lime rind and juice and simmer uncovered, stirring, for about 5 minutes
5. serve with boiled rice

so easy, so good....

dirty truck...

since the streets to the site are not completely done yet our cars get a little dirty... so we had a good laugh when we walked out of the office to see this written on the truck.... good guess huh? since what and why start with a 'wh'.... haha... gatta love these people...

our fun weekend....

we had so much fun the last weekend... it was a super saturday... i cant believe that we fit everything in one day.... first we started the day with a bike ride... i think we went about 6 or 7 miles. we rode along the beach near the pilar condos, exploring the different trails, and had a competition to see who could ride further up a hill of sand... it was pretty hard... i dont know if you have ever tried to ride a bike in the sand... not a good idea if you want to get anywhere... i won!!! but only probably because brents bike tire started loosing air so we had to leave.... next... we rode quads up the mountains to the trail head of canon de nacapule....
here we are in the cave at the end of the trail... in the middle of all the desert, there is this oasis of water and beautiful green vegetation...
.... we were told that there was a spring at the top of the hike... and we thought it would be big enough to swim in, thus the swimming suits we wore... it wasnt very big... but, it was pretty cool to see...
.... we had fun!!!

the model homes!!!

i love interior design... this may sound weird... but i think i get on a high when i am designing... i am very happy the way the models are turning out... after months of picking colors, tile, fixtures, hardware, lighting ect... and two trips to guadalajara to buy all the furniture and decorations...it has all come together.... we have gotten a lot done...

there are still a few details to finish... painting accent walls, window treatments... and the biggest one that is driving me crazy... getting the other workers out of the houses... for example...the electricians are still finishing up, so they move the furniture that i placed and then dont put it back.... and then they leave the wire clippings behind for someone else to clean up... ugggg.... anyhow....here are a few pictures....

this is the loft in the house named 'durango'... the glass has not come yet, for that coffee table...

here is one examples of the workers not moving the chair back... but i still love this room... 'los cabos'....

this is the dining room table in the 'los cabos'... i used corn, rice, black beans, pinto beans pepper corns, yellow beans, sunflower seeds and white beans to make this design... i love how it turned out...

the kitchen in the 'mazatlan'.... we bought tons of those metal roosters and chickens, they are so fun!

master bedroom in the 'monterrey'.... this is the house that reminds me of an east coast beach house... blues, greys, blacks and whites...

this is the hall bathroom in the 'monterrey'... i love the starfish...

love thursday on wednesday....

i know that i wont have time tomorrow, so i thought ahead... love thursday... i love spending much needed time and vacations with my media naranja, brent!... as of today, wednesday, may 23, 2007 we have been married for 2 years, 6 months and 19 days.... sadly, these are about all of the pictures that we have ever taken together... hopefully i will become a better photographer and take more picture someday... maybe when we have kids... i hope you enjoy the reminiscing as much as i did...

hawaii...june 2006... we woke up at about 2am so we could take a bus to the top of the volcano, the highest point on the island, and rode down the whole volcano while the sun was rising... so beautiful! oh... and dont you just love my awesome huge blue parka... it was so freezing cold at the top, it was before the sun was up... or just coming up...
nyc... martin luther king weekend... feb 2005....who doesnt love a trip to nyc... we went ice skating in central park... so much fun... great memories...

christmas 2004.... we spent our first christmas together after being married in disneyland with my family...

march 2006....after i graduated in december 2005 brent surprised me with a trip to greece... i had always wanted to go there, we both loved it! so pretty! we are on the island of santorini (where sisterhood of the traveling pants was filmed)
i love the contrast of the white houses and blue doors, we painted our front door blue so we could have a little taste of greece while in mexico... ha... turkey... the blue mosque...inside this mosque or church all women have to cover their heads to be admitted in... so we bought this blue scarf...
november 2004...so... these are obviously not in chronological order... this is our honeymoon... we are at xcaret... a natural water park in cancun mexico...

november 2005....this picture is actually of some random lady... see the woman sitting on the bus stop bench... in all blue... well, brent and i were walking behind her, and she fluffed, both of us looked at each other in amazement, wondering if we really heard "her" right... it was pretty loud... i could hardly keep from laughing out loud... that is when i crossed the street and took this picture... san francisco... 1st anniversary... unfortunately, i have no pictures of us... see what i mean...

...and these... these are the model homes that we are building in san carlos, sonora mexico... they are the reason that i will not be blogging for the next few days... we are moving all the furniture in starting tomorrow! yeah!!! i am so excited... i am the interior decorator for these 5 models that brent has been in charge of building... he is kind of like a glorified superintendent... didnt he do such a great job! they are looking so great... landscaping will all be done soon too... i am excited!

earthquake!!!

since we have been living here, we have felt two earthquakes... kind of crazy... i didnt expect that to be one of the things that we would encounter while living here! here is a picture of the first earthquake, the star is where it originated from. it was about 7:30am our time wednesday, january 4th 2007. the whole house wobbled or swayed for a few seconds, i thought i was dreaming... (if you go straight east from the star and up just a little, that is where guaymas is) .... this is the picture of the second earthquake that we have felt... this one was yesterday... may 20th 2007. again... crazy... brent and i were sitting on the couch, enjoying our sunday afternoon, and it was almost like the ground was growling... then shaking the whole house for only a second or two... but you cant miss it... crazy!!!!
