his words were: "i wonder if saying goodbye will ever get easier"

tuesday started out as a day of hating goodbyes... but the more i thought about it... it is not such a bad thing...

yes, i had to once again say goodbye to brent as he goes in for more training... and we are not exactly sure when we will see or speak with one another... i felt my heart drop again, not in a good way... it was like starting all over again... the same feelings as when he had to leave for boot camp on april 20th... even though this time it is only for three short weeks and he should have some phone privileges, i still hated saying goodbye...

... but then i thought about it, trying to be positive... when i am saying goodbye to mesa, i am then saying hello to brent... and... when brent says goodbye to camp pendleton... he is saying hello to me...

if i can, i just want to ask one favor for all of those who are lucky enough to see their loves tonight... please give them an extra hug and kiss... just because you can... remember how lucky you are to hold them, smell them and just talk and hear their voice...  i dont write this in self pity, so please dont think that i am looking for that... i just wish for this: everyone that has the chance and opportunity to be together, remember that many others dont have that chance... and long for it.

now, i must stop and get on the next part... i have so many wonderful pictures to post... we had some of the most amazing and best 10 days of our lives... we had so much fun... i will catch up as fast as i can...
p.s. this is what he had to wear to the airport... his dress uniform...
tuesday, july 28th 2009... holding back tears for these pictures...

LOVE thursday...

... zero = one of the best days of our lives!
(sigh of relief)
(special thanks to urban and some other random t shirt store)

questions answered...

when people ask us what we are up to now... they are always shocked at the response... so i wanted to remember as well as inform those who are still wondering... why, how and what we are doing now...

the way i see it...

#1

Q... so are you guys still in mexico?

A...no, we moved back to the good old USA in the beginning of march 2009.

#1.5

Q... and... where are you now?

A... jones and i are living with my parents.

#2

Q... oh... and where is brent?

A...he is in boot camp, he going to be a marine.

#3

Q... really??!!!?!?... and what made you/him decide this?

A...with much consideration, prayer, determination and thought it became clear that at this time in our lives, this was the best thing for us as a family...

--brent has always felt that he needed to pursue school... they (USMC*) will pay for school...

--he loves language and would love to pursue something with linguistics... they (USMC*) have linguistics programs...

--we feel that this will lead us in a direction that brent will be able to make a career from these experiences, whether it is to continue with the marines after his four year enlistment, or something else, this is the right and correct decision for his (our) career path...

--we both feel so much peace as we finally made the decision for him to join and went forward with this decision...

--yes... it will be hard at times... for me, it was THE hardest thing to do... to drop brent off the day he was to report and know that i would not talk to him nor see him for 13 weeks... those first few hours were the worst... followed by the first few days... i remember coming to tears for no reason in the middle of nothing... but... i can say this now... yes, it is hard... but many have done this before me, many will do this after me... if you search for strength, you will find it... we have been strengthened and we are doing wonderful... there are moments of hardship... when it would be nice to just talk, even if it were for a short moment... or just one hug... but these moments pass... and then we are stronger than before... as a wise man told me in the first few weeks of brent leaving...

"take advantage of this time, relish it as a time to perfect yourself and then when you come together again, you will be even better for one another, better together and more perfect together. think of this time as a blessing... a blessing that many dont ever have as an opportunity in their lives..."

i know these words to be true...
and now... i can truely shout to the world that the next few days are some of the most anticipated days of my life... brent and i have been away from one another before... i did a study abroad in spain for a summer so for two months we did not see each other... but we talked at least once a day... that was hard... then he moved to mexico about a month before i did... (had to finish real estate school)... but still... talked everyday!!! ... so, this has been so so so different!
there has been two phone calls... one just because his senior drill instructor is awesome... and let him call home so jones could wish him happy fathers day... and second, so that we could arrange travel plans after graduation... other than those two calls of maybe 5 minutes between the two... only letters... but we servived... and what great experiences we have had...
i love him...
cant wait to see him...
hear his voice...
and hold him again...
... anyways... back to the questions...

#4

Q...how long is boot camp?

A... 13 weeks...

#5

Q...where is boot camp?

A... san diego, california MCRD & camp pendleton

#6

Q... wow!

A... yeah... we are in for some crazy times... but ready and very excited!!!
#7
Q...how long is he enlisted for?
A... four years.... and we have no idea where that will take us... yeah! i love a good challange!

in brents words...

"i want to explain to you this decision...

i am in boot camp to become a marine for the following reasons...

#1

"i read a book called 'the lone survivor' (i recommend it BUT there is foul, offensive and unneccesary language in it). this book moved me and inspired me to want to serve my country. This book got me started really considering the military."

#2

"although i disagree with our current presidents opinions on many things, it does not change my opinion of our free country. i have lived in two other countries and have seen how our constitution (inspired by the Lord) has blessed our free nation and inabled us to progress as a society. i understand that in all government there are corruptions, but the constitution is a sound document and i have been sworn in to protect it. i want to fight for the freedoms that i have enjoyed for 26 years so far."

#3

"i want to get on a career path instead of just having a job"

#4

"i want to continue my education and i felt that this is a good way for me to finish schooling"

..."those are just the four main reasons but i think of new reasons all the time. i'm happy here althought things are tough. i'm happy with my decision to do this."

(written may 3rd)

some more words from me...

we have been so amazingly blessed... we have many wonderful family memebers and friends that have helped us become who we are today...

although this has been hard to be apart, not able to talk, write emails or see one another for these 13 weeks... we have felt loved and taken care of.

we know (i am speaking for brent too, as i can tell from his letters he feels if not the same, similar to how i feel...)... we know that this is right for us... we have had so many wonderful confirmations that we are headed in the right direction. although we have had our doubts, because of us staying strong and firm on these decisions and on what we have previously chose to do at this time in our lives we have felt the hand of the Lord with us... it has been amazing to feel the love that he has for us and to know that he is watching over us as a family even when we are apart from one another... i know without a doubt that we have grown as individuals and therefore as a couple and a family... we are both so excited to see what may come of this... many have been quoted saying... "nothing is certain in life except change"... this is true... thank goodness we both are up for a challange in this ever changing world.

thank you to everyone who has thought about us, prayed about us, taken care of us and been there for us during this time. we love you so much and could never thank you enough in words for what you have done. thank you---

...1

rachel got her license!

i am proud to annouce that rachel got her license... yeah!
...and the first place she drove was over to my house... so we could make some fun hair accessoires...

rachel made this super beautiful feather and peacock one... i love it!
then... i made this one...

...then we both made smaller peacock ones...

my grandparents used to have/keep peacocks in their yard... so i used some of the feathers we had from them... i love that i will always remember them... it is such a good childhood memory of mine... i love those beautiful birds!

can you tell which are the fake and which are the real feathers?

(my real feathers are on the right)

7/13/2009

we cant wait to go again... we had so much fun!!!

great memories... we loved every second!

loved:
our awesome pants that were a crazy good deal...
loved more:
finding them together at the farmers market...

loved:
they have the same shirt...
loved more:
that owen wanted to sit by jones all the time... so sweet!

loved:
that he loves to read books
loved more:
that he picked up starwars everytime he was in this room...
(brent does not really like star wars... so it is funny to me that jones would pick this ONE out of the many many books on the shelves)

loved:
san fran... enough said...
it is great for so many reasons...
(street performer:one-man-band. he was actually pretty good... i could never be as coordinated as he was...)
loved more:
shopping + san fran = great deals!
(h&m, urban, forever 21, gap, anthro and much much more in very short distances from oneanother... what more could a girl ask for???!!!!)

loved:
that there is a street named jones st
loved more:
that he will take pictures with me all the time! he loves the camera.... and that shauna took so many pictures for/of us...

our last day... (picture a frowny face here)... our trip is almost over...

my mom and i took jones to the aquarium... it was even more fun this time... jones was so much more interested in the fish and so much more interactive...
one of our favorites... the kelp gardens...

he love/hated that crazy fish... it would make him so frustrated when he couldnt actually grab the fish... because it looked like it was right there... darn 6 inch thick glass...

jones and grandma...

to the farmers market we must go...
so shauna has been telling me about this for such a long time... i was so happy when we knew that we would be in monterey on a tuesday, so we could go... it was so fun to see the different foods and goods... they had the most amazing white nectarines... i loved them!

yeah!

on a monday...

the little swiss cafe...

so quaint... so yummy...
so... breakfast is my favorite... we went to this little place called 'little swiss cafe' and although very different from 'the wagon wheel', it was so yummy! funny thing is that we all ordered the same thing! and it was the best!
i wish i could eat there again, right now!

YUM!

point lobos... so beautiful...

and owen lost his tooth! yeah for the first of many... he was so proud...!

china beach...

our fourth of july...

we started out with an amazing breakfast at 'the wagon wheel'... they have amazing oatmeal pancakes... and i loved that as soon as we were seated... the waitress came by and brought jones some toy horses to play with... he was so intertained! it was perfect...
...then... on to our bug walk... at earthbound farms... there is an organic farm located in carmel...
...jones of course got very excited to see the tractors there... and then to play in the dirt...
...at first he wasnt so sure about the ladybugs...
bug walk: we wandered through the plants as our guide taught us about the different insects and what there purpose is... then... the best part... everyone got a handful of ladybugs... they help out, they are just cute... they are a good bug!
then... we got our goody bags... with yummy organic earthbound stuff... jones learned a new word... and loved to say 'apple' the rest of our trip...
then... we took a stroll through the herb garden... we actually got to try this crazy plant... it was kind of wierd to just take a piece of the leaf and eat it... so minty... i loved it...
then... on to the chamomile labyrinth for some relaxation... i wish i had this in my backyard... it was awesome! the sign behind jones told us to take our shoes off and enjoy our feet in the grass covered in chamomile... we did!
jones and flowers... he loves to smell them...
(sign at the end of the labyrinth path)

couldnt get enough flowery beauty...
and i have a hard time choosing which pictures i like best... so why not include them all... right??
next... we had a bonfire on the beach....
so... i bought fireworks to do on the beach... because it was the fourth.. but of course we didnt want to get a fine of $1000.00 dollars so... we didnt get to use those... but we had fun anyways... shauna was the smart one and said:
"since we cant have fire works...
we have a fire... our fire works = fireworks... yeah!"
leave it to shauna to be so clever!
then... aaron and becky davidson joined us with their family... they taught us a new trick... if you throw "poppers" or certain pieces of seaweed in the fire, they pop... so we had even more non-fireworks-fireworks... i love the fourth of july!

it was so fun... we roasted hot dogs... and ate smores... i love love love smores... yum!!!
such a fun night...
