goodbye august...

saying goodbye to august is like saying goodbye to summer...
it doesnt feel like it...
especially in hot arizona...
but it is a goodbye...
dont you love when fun and entertaining things only cost $2.10?!?!?

i do...

today... jones and i went to superstition ranch market to get a watermelon for only 19 cents/lb... it was so good!
red... juicy... delicious...

even better than legos... you stack them... then eat them...
then we enjoyed a mug root beer... we love our root beer...
"mug shot"
and swimming...

ps... thanks auntie lyn... for the sunglasses... jones thought he was way too cool to smile with them on... haha...

graduation day and birthday...

august 25th 2009
jones and i waiting for graduation to start...
brent is in formation in the right platoon... very back row... towards the middle... i know you cant see him... but he is there...
our family graduation picture...
jones was of course obsessed with the "tractor" behind us... so one of the other guys in charge of it told us to crawl up there... jones was so happy!
driving the "tractor"...
so... brent unfortunately only had an hour between his graduation and his first duty station... i was hoping that we would get to spend a little more time together before he had to report again... but unfortunately we had to leave him again after a short hello and goodbye...
luckily my mom was there to make sure that i still had a good birthday... she took me to one of my most favorite to eat for lunch... the crab cooker...
then... we decided that since we were so close to the beach we would just stop by... jones loved playing in the sand and chasing the waves... he did not want to leave... he loves newport just as much as i do...
then... on to what brent would call "retail therapy"... we stopped by fashion island for some amazing deals at urban and anthropologie...
then... of course some pinkberry for me! my mom asked me what kind of cake i wanted for my birthday... i said pinkberry...
this time i tried
original + honey +almonds = so good!
jones loved his sample of pomegranate

then... and dont laugh... back to disneyland... only to do two things...

1-because it was my birthday and i have a annual pass i received a gift certificate of $69 instead... yeah...
2-to ride dumbo... i couldnt go all the way there to just leave without riding one ride...

so...
thanks to my mom and so many other people that went out of their way on my birthday...
thank you... thank you... thank you...
i really did have a very good day! it was one of the best days... only missing one thing... brent...

p.s...
when i got home from cali... this is what was waiting for me... from brent...
two more of my favorites...
sprinkles cupcakes and naked juice...
i will openly admit that i was and am truly spoiled and very blessed to have such a wonderful husband that goes to many lengths to make sure jones and i are doing well... to let us know that we are loved and doing ok...
thanks again to everyone... i love you all for making my day so great!!!

off base leave...

august 22nd 2009
how the day started...
happy...
&
exciting...
&
carefree...
(my mom dressed jones up in this pink apron to play in this very pink room/kitchen that belongs to my cute cousin pictured above)

how the day progressed...
adventurous...
then...
very very anxious...
then...
frustrated...
then....
(our "loot" from the swap meet we found in oceanside... including our giant peaches and nectarines)

then...
satisfied...
finally...
we got to pick brent up... not around 12 noon like we thought... but 5:30pm... at least we got to see him... take him with us... and have our hotel accidently give us a whole plate of yummy and very delicious chocolate dipped strawberries...
at least we got to take brent out to dinner, relax by the pool, enjoy the farmers market and borders books all before having to take him back within only 22 hours...
he had to report at 3:30pm...
(august 23rd 2009)
but then... as i dropped off brent i was lucky enough to be able to meet my cousin who recently graduated as a recon marine... we were able to go to the beach for a short time and catch up on each others lives... and jones loved playing in the sand...
for the full story see the small print below... it is mostly because i want to remember... but if you are interested see below...
warning... i wrote the below story while waiting for brent, i knew that i was going to see him in less than one hour, so i was happy but still very anxious and frustrated...
(august 24th 2009)
and of course we made the whole thing better by going to disneyland the next day...
this kid deserves to go again and again... poor little guy... when brent had to report back and jones saw his daddy walking away he began to cry... i hated that moment... it is hard enough for me... but seeing your child sad because his father has to leave... that is heartbreaking!!!
i am so thankful for how well behaved he is... such a good little guy that takes care of me... i would take him to disneyland everyday if i could and we would do nothing but ride dumbo all day!

that is his favorite...

just ask him...

"jones, do you like disneyland?"

"DUM-BO!!!"

the short story long...

I am pretty sure I just had the longest day of my life… or at least one of them. I woke up so happy… so excited… why??? Because we get to go and pick up brent… well… I left the house around 10 thinking that it would take about an hour and that maybe he would even call me while on my way to say he was able to be picked up…. That we would go and have the best day… go to the beach… out to lunch and just enjoy the day…

… it did not happen quite like that…

at first… when I had already arrived in Oceanside and had not heard from him I drove around downtown… nothing really caught my eye… so we didn’t stop there.. instead I decided to drive about five miles back the direction I had just come from to a swap meet… it sounded like fun… like a small adventure that would keep jones and I busy until he called… and it was… I loved being there… I did not expect what it was… it was almost a little mexico… I loved that I was able to speak spanish with many of the people there… it reminded me of the mexican market that we would go to whenever people came to visit in guaymas… but without the weird smells and the meat market part… yuck… I was very happy that part was left out of this swap meet… jones played with some toys that were for sale… but I was never convinced enough to buy any… we found some yummy fruit… one woman was so nice and gave jones and I samples… we both loved it and bought some to take with us... then… a woman was selling books for a dollar… I found “the secret life of bees” which I just watched the movie and was so excited to find, so that I can now read it… such a good/sad/true story… so, that was fun, but the swap meet wasn’t very big and didn’t occupy us for too long…

next… I decided to drive around, see what else we could find… and realized that we were hungry… I thought it would be fun to go to mcdondas playground… so we found a mcdonalds.. but sad thing was… no playground… I don’t think jones cared… he had just as much fun eating chicken nuggets, laughing at himself “dipping” them in ketsup, and smearing it all over the window that we sat by… so sorry mcdonalds... so sorry

after our hunger was satisfied, I remembered that we passed a thrift store… and thought it would be fun to see if we could find anything… so we went, but unfortunately by this point it was getting close to nap time for jones… so the thrift store hunt didn’t last very long… we looked a few children’s books for jones, did not have any luck on finding a good garment bag… (I want one like this for temple visits)… and so we left… empty handed…

then… I thought maybe if we start driving to camp Pendleton, brent will call… well before I knew it, I was in camp Pendleton… accidently passed the “border guard” without stopping and was freaking out because I had no idea where I was supposed to go, where I was, or where I should not even be… this is when I became very frustrated… stopped at another mcdonalds for a bathroom break… and did not know what to do next… by this time it was 2:13 pm… I had been “hanging out” since 11 am… I was getting tired… so I decided that I would just start driving… the base is huge and I don’t even know how much of it I drove… not much at all… but somehow I ended up leaving the base and was back at my thrift store about an hour after my freak out at mcdonalds #2… so 3:15ish… I parked I the parking lot and just waited… don’t even ask me how I got so lucky to have a wonderful child like jones that was so happy while all this was going on… I have no idea… we just chilled in the car and watched baby einstien… I was getting more frustrated for a few reasons… I had already booked a hotel room for us… and it turned out to be in san diego… priceline… that is all need to say… awesome deal, but they pick the location and they are nonrefundable…. So I had to decide… was I going to just forget about it and go back to my aunts… 38 miles away… or go to the hotel myself…. 46 miles away… I didn’t know what to do… I told myself that I would give it another hour…

so… 4:05 came and I decided to start driving… I was going to go the hotel… my stuborness would not let me pay for something unless I was going to enjoy it at least partially! So I began to drive and literally right when I had to decide for sure I5 north or I5 south, brent texted me and told me that he was free…

Almost… I will leave the story at that… because it is already really really long… but I want to describe my feelings… I honestly felt like he, brent, was a figment of my imagination… that he did not exist… a perfect person that I was just not being allowed to see nor talk with… I hated these excrutiating moments

i finally decided... christmas in august part II

if you ever dont know what to get for a guy or girl... and you know that they love to smell good... i am pretty sure that is everyone... well you should for sure get them this...
i loved it... you get ten samples of perfume... then finally once you have chosen which of the amazing scents you love... you turn in your voucher and get a whole bottle.... i loved it.. so much fun! when it comes to perfume there are so so so many, especially for girls.. so it was fun to be able to try something rather than go to the store and try 15 at once... after the first two it is so hard to smell anything anymore...
funny thing is, this was not my favorite at first... but after you are wearing it for a few minutes... it is like the smell changes and... yum!!! i love it!
