jones loves his peaches... brent found this... thing... at the store and i have been putting cut up pieces of peaches, avacados, strawberries, ice.... in it and jones loves it... i dont know what to call it, but it is munchkin brand... and he loves loves it... i think he loves the independence that it gives him...
jones also loves... peek-a-boo... we were playing peek-a-boo at the pool...

love thursday & only in mexico combined...

how many trucks go by your house each day???

what i really mean is, how many vendors go by your house each day? something i love and wanted to remember about mexico, or at least something that happens in our neighborhood, is that throughout the day i can count on a number of vendors to roll down our street selling something...

first... the tortilla guy... he comes at least twice if not three times a day... sometimes early morning... you know, for breakfast... then, always around 11am, lately 11:15 (i always know what time it is when i hear him coming down the street)... then once more around lunch time... 2pm... you always know he is coming because of the "tortilla song" coming from the truck...

"tortillas tortillas
bien calientitas
caliente las tortillas
recien hechacitas
manda por tus tortillas
tor-tor-tor-tillas
tor-tor-tor-tillas"
i love the tortillas... it is so nice that when i know i will need tortillas for a recipe that i am making i can just step outside to my front walkway and for only 10 pesos, about $1, i get a kilo or about 20-25 corn tortillas...
second... the juice guy... this guy is new... he has been coming around everyday, usually shortly after the tortilla guy for about 2 months, and he sells jugo de naranja y pina (orange juice and pineapple juice)... i dont know why we have not tried this yet... i am sure it is yummy... we are also serenaded by a lovely song about juice as he drives our streets... this one i dont know as well... dont worry... someday i will learn it too!
third... the ice cream guy... enough said... the states have the guys too... just had to include him.
fourth... the tamale guy... once again... a wonderful song all about tamales and the flavors they offer... pina, pork, chicken, beef... these are yummy... we should eat them more often...
fifth... the bread guy... this guy is on his bicycle that has a huge tray mounted to the front, in which there is an assortment of sweet breads... you know he is coming when you hear a bike horn honking... i love this guy... he is always happy...
sixth... the corn guy... this is the guy that made me finally write this list... yesterday was the first day that the corn guy pass by our house... just a guy selling corn from his truck... rico elote...
seventh... the water guy... cant forget him... he comes by, honking his car horn, like he is doing right now... up and down our streets to sell a huge garafones de agua, or a 5 gallon water jugs...
how many go by your house each day???

my next project...

arent these so cute... i want to make some for jones...

or you cant buy them here...

super activity...

this last saturday we had our super activity with the youth from our ward... we did the same thing last year and it was such a success that we decided to do it again this year...

first we went to the temple and did baptisms for the dead... which turned out awesome... the temple president pulled the bishop aside as we were leaving and congratulated us on having so many youth for only a ward visit, we had 22 youth with us!!!
then we went to eat at a chinese food buffet... everyone loved la comida china!!!

then... to the movies... they are working on building a movie theather here in guaymas... but we do not have a working theather... so it is such a treat to go to the movies... some of the kids dont get to go very often at all...

movie of choice: the kids chose... high school musical, el desafio...

it is the mexican version of high school musical... and... it was jones very first movie... we were laughing so hard... we didnt know how he would be and we didnt want to just sit outside waiting for the movie to end... so we took him in... he loved it... he sat on my lap and crossed his ankles and enjoyed... he would even start to dance when there was music and singing... which was almost all the time...

what a wonderful day!!!

happy october!!!

dia de independencia...

we went to the plaza to celebrate the dia de independencia on the 15th of septiembre... there were so many people!!!
this is how it works... everyone goes downtown to the municiple building and waits for the city mayor to come out on the balcony... at 11:00 pm he says a few words, ring a bell and then everyone yells el grito 3 times: "VIVA MEXICO!!!"... then the fireworks begin... the following day is el dia de independencia (16 de septiembre)... what a celebration!!!

beautiful fireworks (red, green & white for the mexican flag)... but ooopppsss...

some of them caught a palm tree on fire...

"this is the moment that every 16th of September is re enacted in every plaza or zócalo of Mexico, and commemorated by Mexicans all over the world. "
