youth conference april 4-6 2007

youth conference was last week, wednesday, thursday and friday. we had a lot of fun with the kids. we now have 13 young women and 10 young men. we had a campout in empalme, overnight. the next day we played games and hung out at the campsite. friday the kids had a seminary thing in the morning, then that afternoon/night they had their "productions". Our ward sang "amor de verano" by airbag and they had been learning the dance from "highschool musical". they did such a good job! later that night we had our formal dance... which was so fun, i forgot how much i love to dance! to see more youth conf. pics go to the link "our ward here in guaymas mexico:miramar" or miramarguaymas.blogspot.com

shauna, this one's for you....

my guacamole

4 avacados chopped, not mushy at all, lots of little squares

2 tomatoes, also diced

1/2 of an onion, or about the same amount as tomatoes diced

some cliantro

some salt to taste

some jalepenos to your liking, i like it spicy, so like 3-5

juice from a few limes

mix together, but once again not smooth, just chunky

that's it... super easy

lunch break... need a laugh???

A man and his ever-nagging wife went on vacation to Jerusalem.? While they were there, the wife passed away. The undertaker told the husband, "You can have her shipped home for $5,000, or you can bury her here, in the Holy Land , for $150."? The man thought about it and told him he would just have her shipped home. ?? The undertaker asked, "Why would you spend $5,000 to ship your wife home, when it would be wonderful to be buried here and you would spend only $150?" The man replied, "Long ago a man died here, was buried here, and three days later he rose from the dead.? I just can't take that chance."

(joke sent from ashley judd, thanks ashley, it made me laugh!!!)

selene's guacamole

this stuff is so good and it is perfect for tacos:

-a few avacados (about 3)

-some sour cream, maybe a 1/2 cup

-roasted serrano chili peppers(the more you put in the spicier it gets, so probably 2 for mild)

-lime juice (to your liking)

-milk (to make it smooth)

-salt (to your liking)

put it all in the blender and mix to a creamy liquid... easy

tip: for roasted serrano chili peppers we roasted them on the open flame of the stove top, but if you dont have a gas stove, just roast (broil) them in the oven until they look as if they are almost burnt. Peel off the skin and also take out the seeds, unless you want really spicy guac. i dont think i forgot anything... :)

i know its friday.... but love thursday

i love it here! mexicans definatly know how to have a party. last saturday, the 31st of march, we had noche de esposos, or couples night, at our house. it was so fun, the women were all helping in the kitchen prepare the guacamole, salsas ect... while the men cooked the carne outside. it was a perfect night and we somehow fit about 40 people in our backyard... it was a lot of fun... and the weirdest thing and also the thing that brent is most proud of is that i ate the tacos and they were good! so... love thursday is: mexico and the great people that are here!

catching up on old times...

hawaii... this was one of the most relaxing vacations we have taken! hawaii is beautiful. we went on a bike ride from the top of a volcano, after watching the sunrise from the highest peak of the whole island (maui). that was one of the coolest things, we went through so many different ecosystems. we went in june 2006, the weather was perfect! i recommend it for anyone!

love thursday...

i made up something new... and hopefully it will help me to "blog" more often. my favorite day of the week is thursday, so thursday will be "love day". every thursday i will share something i love. today, i love almonds, i have been bringing them to work to snack on... and i love them!
